Said Peters to the Washington Post in a recent interview, “I worked to elevate that as one of the top priorities for the committee…Rest assured that cyber will continue to be a top priority for me and the committee. My hope is to be as productive the next two years as we were the last two years.”

As for Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), who co-led the congressionally created Cyberspace Solarium Commission stated that the key priorities ahead for him are improving cybersecurity threat information sharing and protections for the most important infrastructure.

In 2022, Peters (MI), in an effort to promote stronger cybersecurity coordination between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), authored and helped pass the State and Local Government Cybersecurity Act which encourages federal cybersecurity experts to share information regarding cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and breaches, as well as resources to prevent and recover from cyber-attacks, with states and localities who are increasingly targeted by bad actors.

Though the agenda may change, for now, Peters’ legislative aims for cybersecurity in 223 include the following:

• Protect open-source software
• Defend operational technologies
• Secure small businesses from cyber attacks

Peters will also be working alongside Republican Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), too. Said Peters, “I've had an opportunity to sit down with soon-to-be ranking member Paul about priorities for the committee…“I'm confident we'll have a working relationship that can get things done.” He noted that all of the cyber bills his committee had advanced did so unanimously.”
