The DEFIANT X - An Advanced Helicopter Like No Other

It flies twice as fast - and twice as far - as the famed BLACK HAWK.  And it looks quite futuristic. Meet the DEFIANT X.

Per Boeing, DEFIANT X builds on the handling qualities and transformational capabilities proven by SB>1 DEFIANT, a Sikorsky-Boeing technology demonstrator helping to inform the U.S. Army’s future vertical lift requirements. Combined with our team’s unsurpassed experience in mission systems, training and sustainment, DEFIANT X will significantly advance the Army’s air assault capability with limited changes in tactics, techniques, procedures, training and infrastructure.[1]

Some Interesting facts about the DEFIANT X

  1. “X” marks the spot. The X designation refers to the helicopter’s ability to “fly low and fast, land quickly, deliver soldiers to the X (the objective) and get out."
  2. Pusher prop with clutch provides a high degree of maneuverability through quick acceleration and deceleration.
  3. Advanced coaxial rotor system consisting of fully composite, rigid blades provide unprecedented maneuverability, agility, delivering a tactical advantage.
  4. Reduces vibration effects and limits corrosion in harsh environments.
  5. Fly-by-wire flight controls enable state-of-the-art rotorcraft stability and control, reducing aircrew workload for future autonomous ops.
  6. Retractable landing gear reduces parasitic drag and enables high-speed transport.
  7. Can travel at speeds of 247 knots or more and fly twice as far as a Black Hawk without needing to refuel.
  8. The DEFIANT SB>1 demonstrator flies with two Honeywell T55-714A engines.
  9. The Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program is a key capability within the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) ecosystem and FVL is one of the Army’s top six modernization efforts.
  10. Is designed to meet the Army’s requirement to provide air assault and MEDEVAC support in a contested and ever-changing environment.
  11. Incorporates Sikorsky X2™ Technology to operate at high speeds while maintaining low-speed handling qualities.

Cabin for 12 Combat Troops or 3,680 lbs. of cargo provides a survivable and networked space for Soldiers.
